High Friction Coefficient

S class was verified of its performance by AMS Fade test, which was developed by AMS in Germany for testing high-performance sports car. S class, with its average frictional coefficient of 0.48, shows the best performance on the road at the temperatures below 400℃. At extremely high temperatures, shows acceptable braking performance. S class is focused on high performance for streets at reasonable price, and in comparison with the brake pads for race cars manufactured by other brands, the changes of frictional coefficient by temperature show quite different trends, as shown in the table.

DESIGN

Antinoise Design

S class adopts a design for suppressing braking shock, vibrations, and heat delivered to other parts. The anti-noise shim attached to the back side of the back plate prevents the heat and vibrations of the brake pad from being delivered to the caliper. For a soft, yet strong braking, the chamfer on the side maximizes the frictional side with the minimum size at which the soft insertion of disc is possible.

Heatproof Painting

Brake pad and disc rotor generate heat, debris and gas from the frictional side when braking. Although the debris is generated from every pad, there are differences depending on its characteristics and colors. The heat-proof painting of back plate of S-class suppresses the fixation of debris and corrosion, while increasing the smoothness of caliper and sliding of pad. The slot for releasing frictional heat, debris, and gas enhances the stability of braking, by delaying the fade which is triggered by overheating, while also suppressing low-speed noise by adjusting the temperature to appropriate levels.

Bedding

The disc and pad, which go through repetitive and constant heating and cooling, and differ in their characteristics depending on the environment. Excessive braking can cause damages to the product without fixating the same. Therefore, please perform braking bedding, after mounting the part.

• Especially, if the combination of physical properties between the disc and pad are not appropriate, the part might suffer reduced braking performance, reduced quality, noise, and deformation. Therefore, please examine carefully when selecting the part.
• Start the engine after mounting, while being lifted up, and press the brake pedal for a number of times to check the condition of setting and any leakage of oil.
• Drive slowly to test whether the part operates normally. Check if the brake works softly, or if any noise occurs.
• Drive 5km under the speed of 60 km/h. Tread about 30 times intermittently and discontinuously, to adapt the frictional side of the brake.
• Drive for 300km while gradually increasing the pressure applied to the brake, so that the disc and pad take their right positions. When treading the brake, move the pedal softly and slowly so that the entire disc can receive even pressures. Try not to run into using full braking at high speeds, by driving safely under traffic rules and circumstances.
• The above procedure is the least of the methods for stabilizing the physical properties between the parts to adapt the frictional side of disc and pad while positioning them, by gradually increasing the brake system’s temperature without triggering thermal shocks. Although S-class is known to show about 60% at the initial state, and 90% after running 300km, depending on vehicle, driving environment, and bedding methods, the period of adaptation can vary.

Tip

• Think of the bedding as peeling off the surface of the disc and pad, without damaging. Try braking softly.
• Since they are moving parts, tread the pedal intermittently to make themselves take position naturally.
• The parts are sensitive to the temperature. Increase the temperature slowly, for the stabilization of physical properties. When overheated, drive at regular speed for cooling down. Then, stop or park the vehicle.
